I DID IT

John has been so supportive throughout all my training!
I did it, and oh boy did it hurt:). For 16 weeks I have gotten up at the crack of dawn and training. It's been a rough 16 weeks, our lives were turned upside down, but training for this marathon saved me. It was a much anticipated morning. Sara, Shannon and I have had a great time training, and I was so excited to run with them. Well, the race started, and I felt great. I thought that all the training I did was paying off!! I felt great all the way til mile 18, I think I kind of psyched myself out because when I ran a marathon 12 years ago, I totally hit "the wall" at 18. I tried to mess with my mind, and think positive, which worked for about another mile. At mile 19 I needed to stop and have someone apply bengay all over my legs. The bengay worked for about another mile, and then I started going slower and slower, and slower and Sara kept getting farther and farther away from me:( I just felt so sad because I had 6 miles and I had come so far, and my time was looking so good, and ........I stopped a little more to walk and tried to pick up my feet my legs just were in pain. Then I saw my cousin:) My cousin is a die hard, runs the marathon every year, and teaches a mean aerobics class. She is the mother of eight, and so tough. She didn't see me, and I thought to myself to let her pass, but I knew I needed some motivation, and I was not going to make the time I wanted on my own, so I called her name, and she immediately started motivating me. It was a ROUGH last five miles. I was in pain, but I kept running with her, and she kept me motivated enough to not stop. The last mile was pure torchure. But I did it:) I made it in at 3:47:05 that is 12 minutes faster than when I ran it when I was 20, so I was ecstatic.

Payton's Homework

Usually Payton does really well in school. We haven't had to get after him much, he's a perfectionist, and wants to do well. Well today I kept his paper that he got 0 out of 3 on so I could talk to him when he got home. I just sat down to read it, and died laughing!!!!

There were three problems:
1. Sally got her hamburger and fries. Then she saw her friend Pat had a chicken sandwich with a chocolate shake. Sally wished she had gotten what Pat had. She asked Pat if she wanted to trade. "No," said Pat. "You know the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence"
a. What someone else has always looks better
b. If you water your grass as much as your neighbor does, you will have green grass too.
c. The way the light shines on the other side of a fence makes the grass look greener.
(Payton circled c)

2. Bill hit a baseball through the window. When his dad asked him how it happened, he lied and said his sister had done it. His dad had seen him do it. Now he was out of the frying pan and into the fire.
a. The baseball had fallen into a frying pan and then bounced into the fireplace.
b. Frying pans usually sit on top of fire so you have to be careful not to spill things.
c. Bill was in more trouble now than he had been to start with.
(Payton circled a)
3. Rebecca didn't finish her math homework last night. She played on the computer instead. She asked her mother to tell her teacher that she had been sick. her mother told her that she would have to face the music herself.
a. When you play the piano, you must look at the music sheets.
b. Her teacher would ask her a musical question.
c. She must be honest with her teacher and accept the consequences.
(Payton circled a)

This is what makes being a mom SO worth it!

Last night we went to Payton's choir concert at Tuacahn. I had no idea what to expect, it was huge. There were 8 school's from Washington county. Payton had a solo in his choir's number, and he nailed it. It was so fun to see Payton on the Tuacahn stage, because I have a little dream:) that he will want to pursue his singing and perform a LOT there:) I couldn't upload it to my blog, so click HERE and see it on youtube.

APRIL FOOLS!!!!

This was our dinner: Peas-made out of watermelon air heads, the green apple would've been better. Grilled Cheese Sandwiches- made out of pound cake toasted and frosted with orange frosting. Fish Sticks-made out of creme wafers, peanut butter mixture(1/2 cup sugar, karo syrup boiled, then add1/2 cup peanut butter and vanilla), and rolled in crushed corn flakes!
Lydia helped me make our dinner, and all day was saying, "What do you say on Funny day?" She couldn't wait to say "April Fools" to the boys but kept forgetting how to say it.
I might try these cupcakes again next year, this year they were HORRIBLE! You're supposed to put meatloaf in the cupcake, and bake, then add colored mashed potatoes. Well I got this silly idea to try cauliflower. I have been hearing lately that you can mash up the steamed cauliflower for a healthier substitute for potatoes. It was YUCKY!!!
Overall the dinner was a success. The kids just loved eating dessert for dinner!! That is my kind of April Fool's- no mean pranks involved!:)

Marcus' birthday

Marcus' birthday is the day that Wyatt Larsen passed away last year at 6 months of age. We love their family, and because I have a boy Wyatt's age, he has been on our minds a lot this year, so we decided to take some flowers to his grave before the kids went to school.
Between trying to take treats to Marcus' class, and trying to get ready for a birthday a party at the swimming pool, of course Brigham has to give me his usual mess:)
The party was a success. We went to Sand Hollow pool, opened presents and had cake before we actually went swimming.
There were so many kids, Marcus kept coming home and telling me he invited someone else.
This is a picture of Greg the day before he left to the MTC with all of our kids, we had a great weekend with him.

Star Spangled Banner singing Contest....please RATE

I entered Payton in the USA weekend Star Spangled Banner singing contest on youtube. The Grand Prize winner will be invited to perform the national anthem at the Museum in Washington, D.C. and at the Baltimore Orioles vs. Atlanta Braves game, both on Flag Day (June 14, 2009). How cool is that? click here
to view his video. To rate his video, just click on the stars below his video. The more people who view and favorably rate his video before April 13, the better his chances are to be selected as one of 15 semi-finalists. Tell your friends, if you get on youtube and search for Payton Kemp singing the Star Spangled Banner, it'll also come up.

YUMMY LOW CAL SLOPPY JOES

Lately I have been trying to hide vegetables, I LOVE TONS of vegetables in my food, but unfortunately my kids and probably my husband like it simple. Last week I blended cooked squash and zukinni in my cream of chicken soup for a chicken dish, so this week I decided to hide my vegetables in my favorite sloppy Jo recipe, try it out on your kids, it's packed with Veggies, and so good!

1 lb of ground TURKEY (I like this better than beef)
1 onion chopped
1 green bell pepper chopped
3 or 4 sticks of celery chopped
1 can of tomato puree 14 0z
1 tbs-1/4 cup brown sugar (depending on how sweet you want it)
1 can of red kidney beans 8 oz drained (these hide pretty well, your kids will hardly know they're there)

brown meat, and put aside. Cook veggies until translucent in color. Put veggies, and tomato puree in blender and blend away, put back in pan and add brwn sugar until it is sweet enough for you. Add meat, and kidney beans, and simmer. SOOOOOO soooooo yummy:)Enjoy!!!
